ΑΜΛΕΤ, Πράξη 4, Σκηνή 5

ΟΦΗΛΙΑ

Σε παρακαλώ, ας μη μιλαμε γι αυτό, μα όταν σε ρωτάνε τι σημαίνει να λες μόνο:
(τραγουδάει)
Αύριο είναι του Αγίου Βαλεντίνου
Και πρωί πρωί
Ένα κορίτσι είμαι κάτω απο το παράθυρό σου
Περιμένοντας να γίνω η “Βαλεντίνη” σου.
Σηκώθηκε τότε και ντύθηκε
Κι άνοιξε την πόρτα του δωματίου του.
Έβαλε μέσα το κορίτσι που φεύγοντας
δεν ήταν πια παρθένα

Γιορτάζει σήμερα ο Αγιος Βαλεντίνος, προστάτης των ερωτευμένων, του ευτυχησμένου γάμου, της αγάπης αλλά και των μελισσοκόμων και ενάντια στις λιποθυμίες, την χολέρα και την επιληψία.

Είναι άγιος για τον οποίο ελάχιστα και αντιφατικά είναι γνωστά, που μπορεί να μην υπήρξε ή που στο πρόσωπό του συνυπάρχουν δυο διαφορετικοί άγιοι με το ίδιο όνομα. Λατρεύεται από την Καθολική Εκκλησία, η οποία γιορτάζει άλλους 11 με το ίδιο όνομα, καθώς και την Λουθιρανική και την Αγγλικανική, όχι όμως και την Ελληνορθόδοξη.

Παρ’ όλες τις ασάφειες η γιορτή του Άγιου Βαλεντίνου έχει εμπορευματοποιηθεί σε παγκόσμια κλίμακα και γιορτάζεται ακόμα κι εκεί που η εκκλησία δεν τον αναγνωρίζει.

Σ΄ό,τι με αφορά, άσχετα απο εκκλησίες και εμπόριο, το κάθε τι που που μας προτρέπει, που μας κάνει να λέμε τις λέξεις “Σ’ αγαπώ” είναι καλόδεχούμενο και καλώς καμομένο.

OPHELIA

Pray you, let’s have no words of this, but when they ask you what it means, say you this:

Tomorrow is Saint Valentine’s day,
All in the morning betime,
And I a maid at your window,
To be your Valentine.
Then up he rose, and donned his clothes,
And dupped the chamber door.
Let in the maid that out a maid
Never departed more.

The feast of St. Valentine today, patron of lovers, affianced couples, happy marriages, love, beekeepers, against fainting plague, epilepsy. It is uncertain whether St. Valentine is to be identified as one saint or the conflation of two saints of the same name. Several different martyrologies have been added to later hagiographies that are unreliable. All that is reliably known of the saint commemorated on February 14 is his name and that he was martyred and buried at a cemetery on the Via Flaminia close to the Ponte Milvio to the north of Rome on that day.

About eleven other saints having the name Valentine are commemorated in the Roman Catholic Church. There is no commemoration of St. Valentine in the Greek Orthodox Church, but some Eastern Churches of the Western rite may provide still other different lists of Saint Valentines.

Still, in spite of the uncertainties, “Valentine Day” has been commercialized worldwide and celebrated even where the church does not recognize him.

As far as I am concerned, irrespective of any church and commerce, whatever promotes love and makes us utter the words “I love you” is welcomed and well done.
