Τι θέλει η αλεπού στο παζάρι; Κάπως έτσι, με την απορία αυτή, θα μπορούσε να σχολιάσει κανείς την επίσκεψη του Σουλτάνου Ταγίπ στην Ελλάδα.

Η αλήθεια είναι πως οι διεθνείς διπλωματικές σχέσεις της Τουρκίας είναι εκεί που δεν πάει πιο χαμηλά με άμεσες συνέπειες και στην οικονομική της κατάσταση. Μήπως, λοιπόν, ψάχνει για κάποια διέξοδο, ένα παραθυράκι προς την ΕΕ και τις ΗΠΑ; Κι απο πού κι ως πού όμως μπορεί η Ελλάδα να το ανοίξει το παραθυράκι αυτό;

Εσωτερικά δεν πάει καλύτερα: Φίμωση του Τύπου, λογοκρισία, διώξεις και φυλακίσεις και πάνω σ’ όλα αυτά και πολιτικο/οικονομικά σκάνδαλα όπου εμπλέκοντα και μέλη της οικογένειάς του. Και πάλι η ερώτηση, τι δουλειά έχει η Ελλάδα μ’ αυτά;

Μήπως μέσα σε μια ξαφνική κρίση του κατέβηκε να δώσει χέρι φιλίας στην Ελλάδα, παύοντας έτσι την επιθετική του πολιτική με την διεκδίκηση εδαφών (δες νησιών) και “ζωτικού χώρου”;

Απίθανο. Αποκλείεται! Για μήπως ήλθε για να κάνει και μια επίσκεψη στην Θράκη και να σπείρει ζιζάνια για τους δικούς του γνωστούς και άγνωστους λόγους;

Από την άλλη μεριά, την αισιόδοξη, μήπως θα ήταν δυνατόν να βρεθούν κοινά σημεία συνεργασίας και κατανόησης, σε θέματα που μοιραία είναι κοινού ενδιαφέροντος αφού οι δυο χώρες μας είνα “καταδικασμένες” να ζουν η μια δίπλα στην άλλη;

Όσο εδώ πάει η σκέψη μου. Υπομονή, το βράδυ, αύριο, θα ξέρουμε.

An old Greek saying wonders what is the fox doing in the market place? One can pose the same question with regards the visit of Sultan Tayyip Erdogan to Greece.

It is a fact that Turkey’s international relations with the West are at an all time low with a direct negative effect on her economy. Is it possible that Tayyip Erdogan is looking for an opening, a little window to the EU and the USA? It is possible, but how could Greece open that little window?

Domestically, the interior situation of Turkey, is not much better. Censorship, oppression, persecution of political opponents, with the prisons full of them and huge economic scandals that involve members of Erdogan’s family. And the same question arises again: what does Greece have to do with all that?

Is it possible then that in some stroke of enlightenment, some revelation, Erdogan wants to extend a friendly hand to Greece, and thus put an end to Turkey’s territorial claims? No way! Impossible! Then what? Could it be that he just came for a visit to the Muslim minority in northern Greece, to stir the nationalistic embers of discord? Not impossible.

On the other hand, the optimistic one, would it be possible perhaps to find points of mutual understanding and cooperation, in matters of common interest, since the two countries are destined. condemned some would say, to live for ever next to one another?

Well, this is as far as can think. Be patient then. Tonight, tomorrow, we will know more.
