Έχω έναν ανιψιό που του αρέσει πολύ – μα πολύ – η τζαζ.

Ξέρει ότι αρέσει κι σε εμένα.

Τον περασμένο μήνα μου λέει: “Έρχεται στο “Birdland” -φημισμένο jazz club του Μανχάτταν- τον Ιούνιο για 5 παραστάσεις η Maria Schneider! Σε ενδιαφέρει;’

Την  Παρασκευή 12 Ιουνίου 2018, στις 11 το βράδυ, είμαστε στο Birdland έτοιμοι να απολαύσουμε μια από τις σημαντικότερες εκπροσώπους της τζαζ της τελευταίας εικοσιπενταετίας.

Η Maria Schneider γράφει την δική της μουσική και διευθύνει την δική της 18μελή ορχήστρα η οποία αποτελείται από τους καλύτερους μουσικούς του είδους.

Έχει κερδίσει Grammies στο παρελθόν και η τελευταία της επιτυχία βραβευμένη με Grammy είναι το “The Thompson Fields”.

Έχει συνεργαστεί με πολλούς μεγάλους καλλιτέχνες όπως ο David Bowie ο οποίος την ήθελε να συνεργαστεί μαζί του και στο τελευταίο του άλμπουμ “Blackstar”. Λόγω ειλημμένων υποχρεώσεων δεν μπόρεσε η ίδια να πάρει μέρος αλλά του έστειλε 2 από τους καλύτερους μουσικούς της. Τον Donny McCaslin – ο οποίος παίζει σόλο alto sax σε ένα από τα βίντεο- και αν δεν κάνω λάθος τον Scott Robinson, και οι δυο παρόντες στο “Birdland”.

Σας παραθέτω λίγες φωτογραφίες και 2-3 βιντεάκια για να πάρετε μια γεύση αυτής της μαγικής βραδιάς στην πόλη που δεν κοιμάται ποτέ!

I have a nephew that loves jazz and he knows that I enjoy it too.
So last month he tells me that the great Maria Schneider is going to appear for a limited engagement at “Birdland”, the famous Manhattan jazz club and whether I would like to go with him.

Last Friday at 11pm we are sitting at our table waiting for the show to start. A show featuring one of the greatest jazz artists of the last 25 years.

Maria Schneider writes her own music and plays and conducts it with her own 18-member band that is made out by some of the finest jazz musicians today.

She has won numerous Grammies with the latest awarded for her last release called “The Thompson Fields”!
She has also corroborated with great artists like David Bowie and others. As a matter of fact Bowie had asked her to participate in the recording of his last album before he passed called “Blackstar”!
Unfortunately she had previous engagements and couldn’t join him but she did give him a couple of her distinguished musicians, namely Donny McCaslin on alto sax -who you can see in pictures and video here – and if I’m not mistaken Scott Robinson, both present at this performance.

To give you a “taste” of the magical music we experienced, I posted some photos and short videos from this special jazz night from “The City that Never Sleeps”!
