“Στις 21 Αυγούστου πιάστηκα στο Χαϊδάρι. Στο τέταρτο πάτωμα στην οδό Μπουμπουλίνας, στο κελί αρ. 4, περίμενα το μαρτύριο και το θάνατο. Στις 4 Σεπτεμβρίου μου έφεραν χαρτί και μολύβι. Τότε έγραψα 32 ποιήματα. Τις προηγούμενες νύχτες τις πέρασα άγρυπνος με την πλάτη κολλημένη στον τοίχο, περιμένοντας από στιγμή σε στιγμή να με πάρουν για το μαρτύριο ή για την εκτέλεση….”

21 Αυγούστου 1967, μια μέρα σαν σήμερα, ο Μίκης συλλαμβάνεται απο τον αρχιβασανιστή Μπάμπαλη. Ακολουθεί “το ίδιο τροπάρι το γνωστό”… απομόνωση στην Μπουμπουλίνας, φυλακές Αβέρωφ, νοσοκομείο, κατ’ οίκον περιορισμός, Ζάτουνα Αρκαδίας, στρατόπεδο Ωρωπού…

Το σκίτσο, καμωμένο το 1975, είναι απο σχολικό βιβλίο Λυκείου της Σουηδίας με τίτλο Dikter för vår tid – Ποιήματα του καιρού μας. Κοσμεί την αρχή του κεφαλαίου “Με τα ποιήματα ως όπλα”. Ποιήματα και τραγούδια του Νερούδα, της Γαλλικής και της Ρώσικης επανάστασης, του Βιετναμ, της Χιλής…

On 21 August 1967, on a day like today, Mikis Theodorakis was arrested by Petros Babalis, one of the most sadistic and notorious torturers of the Greek military dictatorship. He was first taken to the Military Police HQ on Bouboulinas str. and then to to “Averof” jail, then hospital, then home detention, then deportation to Zatouna, then to the military base of Oropos…

This drawing of him, made in 1975, is from a Swedish high school book with the title “Dikter för vår tid”, Poems of our Times. It is at the beginning of the chapter “With poems as weapons”. There are songs and poems from Pablo Neruda, of the French and the Russian revolutions, Vet Nam, Chile…
