Το “Σκοπιανό”, “Μακεδονικό” όπως θέλετε πείτε το οδεύει προς κάποια λύση. Είναι η καλλίτερη και για τους δυο; όχι δεν μπορούμε να το πούμε αυτό. Είναι η χειρότερη; κι εδώ όχι, δεν είναι.

Το πρόβλημα ηταν μια χρονιαία πληγή που έπρεπε κάπως να κλείσει. Εαν αφηνόταν στην τύχη του για μεγαλύτερο χρονικό διάστημα τοτε σίγουρα θα κακοφορμουσε με δυσάρεστες συνέπειες για την “υγεία” της περιοχής.

Σε μια διαπραγμάτευση κάτι θα δώσεις κάτι θα πάρεις. Το μόνο σημείο της συμφωνίας όμως που με στεναχωρεί είναι η ονομασία της γλώσσας τους ως “μακεδονική”. Η “γλώσσα” είναι ταυτότητα και πολιτισμός! “Σλαβομακεδονική” θα ήταν πιο σωστό.

Όσο αφορά την κυβέρνηση μπραβο της που τόλμησε αλλά με μια διαφορα, έπρεπε να το χειριστεί το θέμα ως Εθνικό -και οχι ως κυβερνητικό -με την σύμπραξη και συναίνεση και των άλλων κομμάτων εφ’οσων κάτι τέτοιο ηταν εφικτό.

Σε γενικές γραμμές χαιρετίζω την συμφωνία που ομως απο οτι φαινεται θα περασει απο 40 κύματα για να ευοδωθεί. Ίδωμεν.

The chronic dispute between Greece and FYROM seems to be coming to an end. An agreement seems to have been worked out that could normalize the relationship with our northern neighbor.

Now, is the agreement the best that it could be for either party? or the worst? The answer to both questions is no.

The problem was a chronic open wound that had to be treated. If left any longer unattended it would get worst and eventually the “infection” could endanger the regions “health”!

In a negotiation the parties involved have to give and take. One item though in the agreement that I’m ambivalent about is the naming of their language “macedonian”. To me “language” is identity and civilization! “Slavomacedonian” would of been more accurate and acceptable.

As far as the government’s decision to handle this difficult matter -that no other previous government truly attempted or put a serious effort – kudos are in order.
However, I believe because this dispute was of national interest and not one exclusive to this government, the more appropriate way would of been the inclusion -to the degree that it was feasible- of all political parties in the decisions and negotiations.

In conclusion I do support the agreement in general which in turn it looks like it’s going to go through high and heavy seas to be approved.
We’ll see.
