Το σκίτσο αυτό δημιουργήθηκε και δημοσιεύτηκε στο ΒΗΜΑ ΤΗΣ ΚΥΡΙΑΚΗΣ τον Ιούλιο 2006, πρίν οχτώ ακριβώς χρόνια. Προφητικό; Καθόλου. Απλά, σχολίαζε την τότε επικαιρότητα. Μια επικαιρότητα που έχει πια γίνει καθεστώς, συνήθεια, ρουτίνα, μια διαρκής πραγματικότητα, που όπως πάει θα συνεχίσει να υφίσταται μέχρις ότου το κράτος του Ισραήλ υποτάξει και τον τελευταίο Παλαιστίνιο -που μάλλον δεν θα υποταχθεί.

Η αδιαφορία της διεθνούς κοινότητας δεν μας εκπλήσσει. Για περισσότερο απο μισό αιώνα αυτή η διεθνής κοινότητα παρακολουθεί με απάθεια την συστηματική προσπάθεια του κράτους του Ισραήλ να εξαφανίσει την Παλαιστίνη ως ανεξάρτητη οντότητα. Κι εμείς μάλλον έχουμε συνηθίσει. Τι μας νοιάζει… έχουμε τις δικές μας σκοτούρες εμείς.

ΥΓ Οφείλω να σημειώσω πως ο μεγάλος και τρανός πρόεδρος των ΗΠΑ αντέδρασε. Μια επίγεια επέμβαση του Ισραήλ δεν θα ήταν επιθυμιτή, είπε. Αυτό που καταλαβαίνω εγώ είναι πως “ισοπεδώσετε τα πάντα αλλά μόνο απο τον αέρα”. Εσείς τι καταλάβατε;

This cartoon was created and published on July 2006, eight years ago almost to the day. Prophetic? Not at all. It was only a comment on the events current at the time. Events that have become a routine, an on going reality which will not seize to be it seems, until the last Palestinian is subdued.
For more than half a century the international community has been watching in apathy* the systematic efforts of the state of Israel to subjugate Palestine and make it disappear as an independent entity. Are we now surprised then? Not at all. Actually, we have sort of gotten used to it… nothing special or unusual. What do we care? We have our own problems to think of.

PS. To be fair I must point out the mighty President of the mighty US did react. He said that a land invasion of Gaza would not be desirable. I interpret it as “you can flatten out the place but only by air”. What’s your interpretation?
