Μια μέρα σαν και σήμερα, το απόγευμα της Δευτέρας, 4 Αυγούστου 1975, ο Robert Plant που έκανε διακοπές στην Ρόδο με την οικογένειά του, βγήκε από τον δρόμο με το αυτοκίνητο που οδηγούσε και χτύπησε σε δέντρο.

Οι διασώστες έβγαλαν τον Plant από τα συντρίμμια με σύνθετα κατάγματα στον αστράγαλο και τον αγκώνα. Η γυναίκα του είχε υποστεί διάσειση, πολλαπλά κατάγματα στο πόδι και την λεκάνη, ο 4χρονος γιος του σπασμένο πόδι και η 7χρονη κόρη του σπασμένο χέρι.

Από το νοσοκομείο της Ρόδου, η οικογένεια μεταφέρθηκε στο Λονδίνο με ιδιωτικό αεροπλάνο, με ιατρικό προσωπικό και εξοπλισμό.

Ο Robert Plant, μουσικός, συνθέτης και τραγουδιστής είναι περισσότερο γνωστός ως ο τραγουδιστής των Led Zeppelin και θεωρείται απο τους μεγαλύτερους τραγουδιστές στην ιστορία του rock and roll. Το 2006, το περιοδικό Hit Parader τον ονόμασε “τον μεγαλύτερο τραγουδιστή ροκ άλλων των εποχών”. Το 2008 το “Rolling Stone” τον κατέταξε 15ο στους 100 καλύτερους τραγουδιστές όλων των εποχών και το 2011 οι αναγνώστες του ίδιου περιοδικού τον ψήφισαν ως τον καλύτερο απο όλους τους τραγουδιστές.

Το ατύχημα στην Ρόδο είχε σοβαρές επιπτώσεις στην συνέχεια των υποχρεώσεων και των εμφανισεων των Led Zeppelin, που υποχρεώθηκαν να ακυρώσουν πολλές απο αυτές.

On a day like today, 4 Aug. 1975, Robert Plant and his family were vacationing in Rhodes, when the car he was driving spun off the road and crashed. Plant suffered multiple fractures of ankle, bones supporting the foot, and elbow.

Plant’s wife, Maureen, also in the car, suffered a lengthy period of concussions, and had broken her leg in several places. She had four fractures of the pelvis and facial lacerations. Plant’s son, Karac, 4, suffered a fractured leg and multiple cuts and bruises. His daughter, Carmen 7, had a broken wrist, cuts and bruises. Due to the nature and extent of the injuries sustained, Plant and his family were transferred by chartered plane to London.

Robert Plant, is an English musician, singer, and songwriter best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the rock band Led Zeppelin. Plant is regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock and roll. In 2006, Heavy Metal magazine Hit Parader named Plant the “Greatest Metal Vocalist of All Time”. In 2009, Plant was voted “the greatest voice in rock” in a poll conducted by Planet Rock. In 2008, Rolling Stone editors ranked him number 15 on their list of the 100 best singers of all time. In 2011, Rolling Stone readers ranked Plant the greatest of all lead singers.

The accident and the slow recovery of Plant seriously crippled Led Zeppelin’s plans and commitments for the next two years.
