Ημέρες Πολυτεχνείου. Για όσους τις έζησαν με τον ένα τρόπο ή τον άλλο οι μνήμες και τα μηνύματα είναι ακόμα ζωντανά – δεν είναι απλά μια πορεία, μια σημείωση σ’ ένα σχολικό βιβλίο ή ένα μουσειακό έκθεμα όπως τείνει να γίνει κι ούτε η ευκαιρία να ακουστούν οι πομφόλυγες των πολιτικών που, φεύ, κάποιοι απ’ αυτούς είχαν συμμετάσχει κιόλας στην εξεγερση. Ευτυχώς, μια μερίδα της νεολαίας μας που δεν λέει να το βάλει κάτω κρατάει ζωντανά τα μηνύματα και οράματα του αγώνα εκείνου.

Όμως η αρχή του τέλους της χούντας είχε ξεκινήσει πολύ πριν, η γραφή ήταν ήδη στον τοίχο.

Έτσι, τον Φλεβάρη του ’73 το Πολυτεχνείο ξεσηκώνεται για πρώτη φορά κι η αστυνομία εισβάλει στον χώρο, ξυλοκοπάει, συλλαμβάνει και παραπέμπει 11 σε δίκη. Ύστερα απο λίγες μέρες θα ακολουθήσει η καταλήψη της Νομικής.

Φυσικά, ούτε λόγος για σκίτσο στην εφημερίδα. Ετούτο εδώ το έχω βέβαια ξαναδείξει: είναι το τελευταίο μου που δημοσιεύτηκε πριν επανέλθει η άμεση λογοκρισία.

These are the days that commemorate the 1973 uprising of the students of the Athens Polytechnic against the military dictatorship of colonel Papadopoulos.

For those who had participated in the uprising or just lived through those times the messages, the demands, the memories are still alive: they are more than just a demonstration, a paragraph in a school book, a museum exhibit and certainly not an occasion to listen to the meaningless words of the politicians some of which,alas, had participated in those events.

Still, the beginning of the end of the military junta had sounded much earlier. The writing was already on the wall. The first uprising of the Polytechnic took place in February 1973. The campus was then invaded by police forces who beat, arrested many and prosecuted 11 students. A few days later the students of the Law School of the University of Athens followed on the steps of the Polytechnic.

Naturally it was not possible to comment or report the events. The cartoon I post today I have shown before: it is the last published in the newspaper – TO VIMA, 9 February 1973- before the re-imposition of direct censorship. It shows the (A.E.I.), the Greek Universities.
