Κοντεύουν Χριστούγεννα και Πρωτοχρονιά και η φύση ησυχάζει, στα δικά μου τα μέρη τουλάχιστον. Αλλού, λάμπουν φώτα γιορταστικά ή και εκρήξεις οβίδων. Ο Άγιος Βασίλης, λέει, ψάχνει για τα καλά παιδιά να τ’ ανταμείψει με κάποιο δώρο. Εγώ… ούτε παιδί είμαι μα ούτε θυμάμαι πότε ήμουν φρόνιμος για τελευταία φορά – μάλλον δεν ανταποκρίνομαι στα κριτήρια του άγιου με τα δώρα.
Ποιος ξέρει όμως, ίσως να μ’ επισκεφτεί το φάντασμα των περασμένων Χριστουγέννων… και το άλλο των φετινών κι ίσως και των μελλοντικών. Θα δούμε.
Christmas and the new year are almost upon us and all is calm, in my parts at least. Other places around the world are bright, either with festive lights or by the explosions of bombs. Santa, so it is said, is looking for the good children to reward them with a gift. As for me… I am neither a child nor do I remember when I was “good”. Obviously, I do not comply with the standards of the gift bearing saint.
But, who knows. I might be visited by the ghost of last Christmas… or the one of this year. Or even by the ghost of some future Christmas. We’ll see.
